Consulting
As a consultant to mental health businesses, practices, and investment managers, Dr. Kanter has been involved in mental health business and program development since the early 1990’s. As the Director of Psychology for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota, he brought on board an entire Psychology department and integrated mental health services into the Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation program, Inpatient and Outpatient Traumatic Brain Injury program, Stroke/Neuro program, and the Pain Management Program. In 1997, he then created the first Behavioral Medicine Program at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (900 bed hospital, 3rd largest in Florida) and integrated behavioral medicine services into a variety of inpatient medical units including the Cardiac Open Heart Surgery program, Stroke/Neuro Rehabilitation Program, ICU, Pain Management, and Diabetes program. At Sarasota Memorial Hospital, he developed a “Special Care Attendant program” designed to streamline the process of “one-on-one sitter” utilization with documented savings to the hospital of approximately $250,000 the first year.
In 1998, Dr. Kanter founded Comprehensive MedPsych Systems (CMPS), starting with 4 psychologists, which ultimately grew to approximately 100 clinicians in a multidisciplinary core model encompassing psychiatry, psychology, neuropsychology, and Master’s level counselors. CMPS grew to approximately 15 service locations in 3 states. In March of 2018, CMPS was acquired by Refresh Mental Health, with Dr. Kanter employed until April of 2022 as the President for Florida Operations overseeing accelerated growth of the core model throughout Florida and Alabama, doubling the number of clinicians, visits, and revenue in those 4 years.
Dr. Kanter has expanded his role as a private mental health consultant to psychologists and mental health providers in general for those wishing advice relating to decisions about expansion, how to benchmark clinical and business decisions, and how to structure their own organization for optimal growth and financial return as well as developing the potential as a target for acquisition.
Finally, Dr. Kanter consults with some of the top national and international banking, equity, and investment companies related to investment in clinical opportunities and potential obstacles and pitfalls in the mental health growth and acquisition arena.
Neuropsychological Evaluations
Dr. Kanter Consulting provides an evaluation team with the highest level of qualifications for forensic and clinical neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for both the pediatric and adult population.
Dr. Geoffrey Kanter is one of the few double board-certified neuropsychologists in the country. He is board certified by both the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology (ABN) as well as the pediatric-specialized American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology (ABPdN). Dr. Kanter is one of only 5 pediatric board-certified neuropsychologists in the State of Florida and along with Dr. Parsons, they are the only board-certified Pediatric Neuropsychologists in the State of Maine. Dr. Kanter is also one of only 10 board certified neuropsychologists in the State of Maine. Since 2014, he has been the Executive Director for the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology, He provides forensic neuropsychological evaluations for adults age 18 and older related to Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Product Liability, Worker’s Compensation (certified in FL), Disability, Guardianship, and Testamentary Capacity. Dr. Kanter performs approximately 50:50 defense:plaintiff work and has 30+ years of experience in terms of depositions and court testimony.
Dr. Nancy Parsons is board certified in Pediatric Neuropsychology by the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology (ABPdN), one of only 5 in the State of Florida and along with Dr. Kanter, they are the only Board Certified Pediatric Neuropsychologists in the State of Maine. Dr. Parsons provides clinical and forensic neuropsychological evaluations for children age 3 to 21 related to Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, and Independent Educational Evaluations related to academic placement and services. She performs approximately 50:50 defense:plaintiff work and has a wealth of experience in terms of depositions and court testimony. She is also a long-time team member of the Florida Center for Early Childhood, home to the state of Florida’s first and only Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Clinic.
